If there is one thing that this chapter teaches us, it is that there are lots of things about this life and about the future that will remain a mystery to us. And that is good, God always knows what is best. 

When the fifth trumpet sounds an angel is flung from heaven with a key. He opens the abyss and out of the smoke from the abyss appears creatures, locusts with scary features and scorpion stingers. They are given the task to torture all people who do not have the seal of God. 

In this crazy story Saul offers his daughter to David in marriage, but it is a trap. Saul would require a very interesting payment in exchange for his daughter: 100 Philistine foreskins. It might seem crazy, but for David this is an attractive and easy deal. 

This story never gets old. In this lesson we look at the moments in the story that reveal the true heart of David. And we also take a sneak peek into why God arranged this powerful encounter between a shepherd boy and a violent giant. 

There is a difference between someone being with the Lord and the Lord being with someone. In the latter case God is the active participant. In this beautiful story of David coming into Saul's service we see the value of music to calm us as we battle with our demons. 

In this opening sermon of a new series entitled "after God's own heart" the rejection of Saul and the election of David is described. The pivotal mark of the story is that one guy had a heart like God while the other's heart God had to change in order to be useful. It makes us deeply reflect on our own hearts. What type of people are we?

There is a time coming when the trumpets of angels will sound that mark the beginning of the end of the world. The destruction of land, sea, water and stars will be evident. Then we will know the end is here.

In this incredible chapter we see multitudes of saved people worship with angels. These are people who have escaped the wrath of the Lamb upon Planet Earth. 

As we page through the pages of Scripture it is quite clear that when people decide to give their lives to Jesus they get baptized. What might prevent you from making this final decision?
